It was a terrific day recording our first single as a band as Lee, Mike, Jen, Luke, and Aby headed down the M6 for a session with Joe Banks and Olly Thomas from Matchbox Productions UK at their studio in Warrington.
The Band have been formulated since November, with Aby completing the lineup to turn a solo project into a five-piece Band, and since then have gigged across Lancashire aiming to make a name for themselves. The band have been writing in the background and finally settled on the first single to be recorded at the top-level studio in Warrington.
After weeks of rehearsal finishing the structure and parts, for the recording, the band worked together tirelessly and took the finished parts to be produced by Joe and Olly, of the famous unsigned band A.V Club, who now use their knowledge to produce great tracks and photos, working with the likes of Brooke Combe, and many others.
The Band were fired up and once a drum-less guide track was put into the recording session, Aby took a seat at the drums, smashing her first take, and getting a solid second for good measure, and the drums were laid down, hugging the click track tightly throughout.
The session became a mini competition when
Jen stepped up to do the Bass, also calling Aby’s slick work, and completing her part in the first take as well. A second, brilliant take meant Jen had kept the standards high.
Within 10 mins Lee had the Rhythm Guitars complete, in two top tier takes piling the pressure on Luke and Mike.
Luke was next to step up and 3 confidently executed takes from him added to what was already sounding like a huge wall of blissful driving Guitar driven Indie Heaven.
Mike added his ambient, delay covered tracks over the top, glistening the sound and spreading it as wide as the sky to set up forLee’s Vocals.
It was time for a break, with the only casualty being Lee, spilling KFC gravy on his trouser Leg, or so he claims (he was a little excited most of the morning).
After a warmup, Lee confidently knocked out his vocal tracks as we listened to the colorful 3-part harmonies, gliding falsetto notes and aggressive ear catching melodies building the track to its completion.
Aby started her photography course early shooting pictures of the band from every angle which will all be revealed on our social media.
This session was some of the most fun we have had as a band.
We would like to thank Joe at Matchbox for his input and making us feel so relaxed and giving some helpful input into the capture of the sound, and crafting a well-rounded huge raw, unmixed song, being willing to listen to our ideas to get close to the sound we asked for. We would highly recommend working with Matchbox if you are a looking to record and release Music.
We look forward to receiving the mix and releasing this song, so keep your eyes peeled for an announcement of release soon!
